The Ladder Nobody Moves
Image idea: the wooden ladder on the ledge above the church entrance.
Above the church’s main door sits a simple wooden ladder. It appears in drawings from the 1700s and has stayed in almost the same spot ever since.
It is known as the “Immovable Ladder.” Nobody is fully sure who owns it, and moving it without everyone’s agreement could break the Status Quo. It has become a famous symbol of how hard it is to change anything in the church.
Visitors often look up and photograph it from the square outside. For many, it sums up the church perfectly: a place where even a small wooden object can carry centuries of history.
